Who is Iowa Vortex Volleyball Club?
● Iowa Vortex Volleyball Club was created in 2023 after seeing a need for club volleyball in
NE Iowa. We are an independent organization working to promote widespread
participation in club volleyball. We hope to develop skillful, competitive players.
● We are a member of the Iowa Volleyball Region, which is a member of the USA
Volleyball Organization.

Where and when are practices held?
● Practices are held twice per week, starting in early December and ending early April.
● Practice locations will be the MFL MarMac Middle School(McGregor), Central
Community School(Elkader), and Hoffman Hall(Prairie du Chien, WI).
● Practices will be held on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday or Thursday evenings.

Can I be in other activities outside of club volleyball?
● Absolutely! We encourage our players to be active outside of volleyball. The only ask of
the club is that if you accept an offer to a team, you fully commit by being able to attend
practices and tournaments. We understand that conflicts may arise from time to time,
but these should be minimized as much as possible.

Is there a fee to join your club?
● Yes. Fees for each player are dependent on the team you are invited to play for. Fees
include jerseys, tournament entry fees, practice facility rental, equipment and coaching
expenses.

How many tournaments will my team participate in?
● 14U, 15U teams will participate in 6-8 tournaments.
● 16U, 17U teams will participate in 8-10 tournaments, with some overnight travel.
● Teams will typically have 2-3 tournaments a month.

What teams will you have available for the 24-25 season?
● We will have 14u, 15u, 16u, and 17u teams, made of 8-10 players.

When are tryouts?

• Tryouts are held in the summer usually in July and in the fall usually in November.

What should I wear to the tryouts?
● Volleyball shoes, knee pads, and a t-shirt.

What do I need for tryouts:
● Copy of a valid USAV Membership card. All clubs require a USAV membership for
tryouts and to participate during the club season. For new USAV members, there are
several options for memberships. Choose what is best for your needs. There is a $15
tryout option that is good for tryouts. If you make a club team, you can upgrade to a full

● $20.00 club tryout fee - which covers both tryout dates.
What if I can not make one of the tryout dates?
● We encourage you to attend both tryouts for the best possibility of showcasing your
abilities. However, if you can only attend one, you will still be considered for a position.
IMPORTANT......What age group do I try out for?
● Iowa Vortex Volleyball Club is an age level club, and age definitions are set by USAV.
With having limited teams this year, athletes will be allowed to play up, but are not
allowed to play down according to the age definitions.
● Athletes are encouraged to try out for their current age level, but may try out for an older
age level.
